Dell XPS 13 9370 (2018) Review

This year model doesn’t score as well as the one from last year, but you can still count on it being a great Windows laptop which is in the best buy category. The Dell XPS 13 9370(2018)(see the lowest price) has been surrounded by stiff and excellent competition. This makes things tougher for this model.

Benefits

This Ultrabook comes with 256 GB of SSD storage, 8 GB of RAM and a quad-core, eight-generation Intel Core i7 processor. You can see a lot of different options on Dell’s UK website as well as UK retailers that sell it with slightly different specs. You can Upgrade it for more storage, RAM and even a UHD touchscreen instead of the Full HD one. There is a cheaper option for an i5 processor in place of the i7 one if that’s what you need.

Thanks to its speedy SSD and high-end quad-core Intel i7 processor the office tasks or photo editing tasks that you’ll perform will be blazing fast. The touchpad feels grippy and responsive and the keyboard is good for typing on for long periods.

The screen has sharp images and punchy colours that’ll make your photos and movies enjoyable.

On the connections part you get three USB-C ports. You also get a MicroSD card reader and a headphone jack. Dell gives you an USB-C to full-size USB adaptor inside the box as well. You won’t get a video adapter though so if you need one you’ll have to buy a USB-C to HDMI adaptor.

The battery lasts around 13 hours. This is a step down from the 2017 model but that model is no longer on sale in high street retailers. All things aside this laptop will get you through a full working day without the need of the adapter.

Downsides

The webcam captures an awkward view of your face because it’s at the bottom of the screen. Also, the video quality over Skype is blotchy, noisy and unpleasant, which is an abysmal performance for a laptop that’s so expensive.

Another big downside is the speakers who lack bass and clarity. Similar rivals, such as the Microsoft Surface Laptop and MacBook Pro, have outstanding speakers making this kind of a big problem for the Dell XPS 13 9370(2018).

There might be a slight problem with the boot time as well. The model we reviewed was booting in about 22 seconds.

Verdict

Although the XPS 13 is not the no-brainer it once was and the downsides like speakers, camera and boot speed puts it in the same category as it’s rivals, you should absolutely consider it.
