Benefits
A very thin and light laptop that has a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, 128 GB SSD, and 8 GB of RAM. A 13.5-inch touchscreen is fitted with this laptop and it comes with different specifications and colours with the reviewed one being the cheapest one.
The processor, 8GB of RAM and the SSD make this laptop fast and smooth. You’ll feel the speed when you open the programs or process batches of photos in a matter of seconds.
With a precise and accurate action that makes long typing really easy, the keyboard is one of the best you’ll find on a Windows machine. Clicks and gestures are recognised without problems, making the touchpad sensitive and reliable.
Speakers are perfect for listening to music or streaming. You can hear the bass, rich mid-tones, and clear speech. The battery lasts around 10 hours which should be enough for a full working day.
With vibrant colours and crisp text, the touchscreen is really pin-sharp. Its resolution (2256 x 1504) is much higher compared to laptops at this price point. Its glossiness might give some reflections under bright lights but it should be ok.
You can log into this laptop just using your face. Microsoft has built-in a facial recognition camera. There’s no need for using password every-time you log in anymore.
Downsides
The laptop’s cooling fans can get really loud if under heavy load. For some, this noise might be bearable though.
You don’t get too many wired connections. A USB 3 port, a mini DisplayPort connector, the classic 3.5mm headphone jack, and also a proprietary ‘Surface Connect’ as the power connector.
The ‘Surface Connect’ can also be used to connect a dock with more connections but it’ll cost you extra.
Verdict
For a laptop this expensive it should have more ports. There are also more expensive laptops which don’t perform as well as this Microsoft Surface Laptop 2. Look no further if you’re searching for a premium Windows laptop. This is perfect for a student looking for a media and movies laptop.
